Follow the instructions for your device to install your TravelFi eSIM before your trip and connect when you arrive.

Before you install

  • Confirm that your phone supports eSIM.
  • Make sure your phone is carrier-unlocked.
  • Connect to reliable Wi-Fi.
  • Open your QR code on another device if possible.
  • Keep the installation details available.
  • Do not delete the eSIM after installation.

An eSIM QR code may only be installable once. Do not delete an installed TravelFi eSIM unless TravelFi Support instructs you to do so.

Install an eSIM on iPhone

Your iPhone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Menu names can vary slightly by iOS version and region.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Cellular or Mobile Data.
  3. Tap Add eSIM.
  4. Choose Use QR Code.
  5. Scan the TravelFi QR code from your order email.
  6. Tap Continue and wait for the eSIM to install.
  7. Label the new plan TravelFi or Travel.
  8. Keep your primary SIM selected for calls and messages.
  9. Select TravelFi for mobile data when you are ready to connect.
  10. Turn on Data Roaming for the TravelFi eSIM when required at your destination.

After installation

  • Keep the TravelFi eSIM turned off until needed if the plan should not connect yet.
  • Keep your regular SIM available for calls and messages if desired.
  • Disable Cellular Data Switching to prevent the phone from using the wrong SIM for data.
  • Disable roaming on your primary SIM if you want to avoid carrier roaming charges.

Installation vs. activation

Installation

Installation adds the eSIM profile to your phone. It can normally be completed before departure while you have reliable Wi-Fi.

Activation

Your plan begins according to the activation policy shown on the product page. Many plans activate after the TravelFi eSIM first connects to a supported destination network.

At your destination

Connect when you arrive

It can take several minutes for a phone to register on a new roaming network.

  1. Open your mobile or cellular settings.
  2. Turn on the TravelFi eSIM.
  3. Select TravelFi as the mobile data SIM.
  4. Enable data roaming for TravelFi.
  5. Disable cellular data switching.
  6. Keep roaming disabled for your primary SIM.
  7. Wait a few minutes for network registration.
  8. Restart the device or toggle airplane mode if it does not connect.

Can’t scan the QR code?

Try another display method or use the manual installation details included with your TravelFi eSIM.

Display the QR code on a computer, tablet, or another phone.
Use Open from Photos if the device supports it.
Enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code manually.
Manual installation on iPhone

Settings → Cellular or Mobile Data → Add eSIM → Use QR Code → Enter Details Manually

Enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code exactly as shown in your TravelFi installation details.

Manual installation on Android

Settings → Network & Internet or Connections → SIM Manager or Add SIM → Enter Activation Code Manually

The path varies by manufacturer and Android version. Enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code exactly as provided.

Quick checks

Troubleshoot your eSIM

Work through the checks that match what you see on your phone.

The eSIM will not install
  • Confirm the phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
  • Connect to reliable Wi-Fi and restart the phone.
  • Make sure the QR code is clear and fully visible on another screen.
  • If the QR code was used before, contact TravelFi Support before deleting anything.
The eSIM installed but has no data
  • Turn on the TravelFi eSIM and select it for mobile data.
  • Enable data roaming for TravelFi.
  • Disable cellular data switching and roaming on the primary SIM.
  • Toggle airplane mode or restart the phone.
The phone is still searching for a network
  • Confirm you are inside the plan’s covered destination.
  • Wait several minutes for roaming registration.
  • Move outdoors or to an area with stronger signal.
  • Restart the phone and try automatic network selection again.
The wrong SIM is using mobile data
  • Select TravelFi as the preferred mobile data SIM.
  • Turn off cellular data switching.
  • Disable mobile data and roaming for your primary SIM if you want to avoid carrier charges.
